Sunday 2004-06-13 10:30 - Surprise! It's Fathers Day!

After getting home from work I watched the kids while Beth went out to do some shopping. The kids were terrors. Scooter would not eat or take a bottle... she just wanted to pound on my computer keyboard or press the buttons to turn the TV on and off. Sharkie mostly sat and entertained himself until Scooter came along and then they would start fighting over something that the other had.

One time Scooter turned on the TV and heard some singing on a religious program. She did a little sitting dance - something that she does quite a bit when she hears music that she likes. She was happy... for a moment. Within a few seconds the song was done and Scooter was upset. She started pressing buttons on the TV, changing the channels and messing up the settings all while screaming unhappily. I tried changing the channel to some kids shows, turned on the radio for some music, and even tried giving her food and drink, but nothing helped. Finally I found my Primus DVD and popped it in. Scooter was happy again... for a while.

Beth came home and Scooter was ready to go outside. As Beth brought in food from the car I watch Scooter crawl around in the dirt and grass outside. Scooter was happy again until it was time to go inside. Sharkie was pretty content throughout all of this. As I sat Scooter down inside the door she started to scream, Sharkie started to cry and I started to get a headache. Beth decided that it was time for the kids to take a bath, hoping that they'd calm down with that. It didn't work, at least not for Scooter. She was still cranky, wouldn't eat, wouldn't sleep, didn't want to be held and didn't want to be set down.

After putting Scooter in bed Beth says, "Happy Fathers Day!" "What??? No it's not," I say in disbelief. "Yes it is. Look at the calendar." So I looked. "Umm, no, it's not." Beth had been on my case just yesterday for not knowing when Father's Day was and she flubs it up like this. What a joke.
