Finally watched that James Bond movie
« on: February 09, 2009, 10:05:16 »
Why have most of my recent blogs been about health problems rather than having fun? Well... probably lately I've been having less fun than I wish I could and more problems than I'd wish on anyone.

My daughter went to the dentist last week. She has 5 teeth that are interfering with the way her adult teeth come in. My wife had to take a day off from work due to sickness and I was feeling rough with the worst being yesterday. Thankfully I'm back on my feet again and feeling mostly functional.

Fortunately yesterday I was able to, practically forced to, lay on the couch and watch movies, so I did get a little entertainment, but it wasn't fully enjoyable with the pain that I was in.

I finally watched Casino Royale (2006), which I rented from Netflix about a month ago. I really liked that one. My wife said that lots of people she's talked to didn't like it, saying that Bond was uncharacteristically attached to a woman in this new movie. Now, I'm not a die hard Bond fan, but I'm familiar with the Bond stereotypes, so I explained to her that this is a remake of the first film, which sets up who he is, and in this case, why. This morning I looked up the original 1967 film and discovered that there are some plot changes that take this movie a step behind the original Bond film. In that one he was coming out of retirement, but in the new one his career has just begun at the beginning of the film. I also noticed that the working title for this film was James Bond 21, which could add some confusion for those who didn't catch the clues at the beginning of the movie.

I also watched the last 2 DVDs of My Name Is Earl - Season 2. I'd seen most of those episodes already, but they were still good, worth watching again... at least in that present state of health.

Right about that time I was finally falling asleep. NyQuil helped me sleep until about 5AM, when I felt a bit more pain and had trouble breathing. Even outside of this current sickness I've been dealing with breathing trouble early in the mornings on occasion. I'm thinking it's about time to talk to my doctor about asthma.

Update: My wife took me to see a doctor and we found out that I have bronchitis. I'm on meds now and will be getting an inhaler tomorrow. My wife also talked to my mom tonight. The flight to TX has been rescheduled to Thursday, but she's already feeling much better. Thanks to everyone who has been praying for her. Please continue to remember me and my family in your prayers.

"Hello IT. Have you tried turning it off and on again? ... OK, well, the button on the side. Is it glowing?... Yeah, you need to turn it on. Err, the button turns it on. Yeah, you do know how a button works, don't you? No, not on clothes." - Roy (The IT Crowd)

Casino Royale is pretty good. It's a nice reboot of the franchise. I'm looking forward to seeing The Quantum of Solace when it comes out on Bluray.
