Backgammon: Capture the Flag

Another Idea...

What you will need:

-- 1 Backgammon set
-- 2 tokens of different colors to represent flags
-- 1 extra die in a unique color to the ones in your set

Setup is the same as normal Backgammon.  The 2 flags are placed in the spaces just outside each player's home bases.  The special die is placed in the center of the "outer board." This is the 'Power Cube.'

POWER CUBE

To claim the power cube, you must move one of your pieces from your opponent's side of the outer board to your own side by passing through the center of the outer board with a single die (a six).

Then, on the next turn you are able to roll, you must roll the power cube as well.  The Power Cube roll result can be used in ONE of several ways:
-- To let you move one piece the number of spaces indicated
-- To group with ONE of the other 2 dice that has the same result to move 4 pieces the number of spaces indicated.  The remaining third die moves one piece.
-- To let you move one your pieces from anywhere on the board to the bar.  This is done IN PLACE OF any result on the power die.

After your turn is over, the Power Cube is returned to the center of the outer board.  Therefore, it is impossible to reaquire the cube on the same turn you use it.

FLAGS

If one of your pieces is on the same space as your own flag, you may "reset" it.  The reset position for your own flag is the space just outside your home base.  If that space contains at least 2 of your pieces or at least 1 of your opponent's pieces, you must keep moving it one space AWAY from your home base until it is in a legal space.

If one of your pieces is on the same space as your own flag, and a second of your pieces is moved there, the flag will keep moving one space away from your home base until it reaches a legal space.

If one of your pieces is on the same space as an opponents flag, you may choose to move it when you move your piece.

You may never have two of your pieces on either your or your opponent's flag.

SCORING

If you win the game with your opponent's flag inside your base, you add 2 to the number that is showing on the doubler cube.

If you win the game and your flag is inside your opponents base, subtract 1 from the number showing on the doubler cube.

If the doubler cube was not used, the flags have no effect.

Enjoy!
