Sculpting Again
« on: November 12, 2009, 09:09:31 »
Since my recent trip to help Jason with his art show in Atlanta, I have been inspired to a new plan of action.

As phase one of my new plan, I have started sculpting again.  My immediate goal is to have my first piece finished by the end of the week, so I can make a mold of it over the weekend.   Jason has agreed to sell the prints in his booth at his next art show coming up and split the profits.

"Phase two?" you ask...  Well, more sculptures, more prints.  Eventually, I want to get enough of my own stuff to maybe have my own booth, or to sell online.  I'll post some pics once I finish getting the first piece roughed in.

Sounds awesome! I can't wait to see.  :)

What are you sculpting, Chris?  Dragons?  Women?  Fruit?  A Bowl?

I am intrigued as well!

Your first guess was right... I am sculpting Chris.  Self-sculpture!  Nekkid! :o

Just kidding.  The first piece is based on one of Jason's prints.  It is the dinosaur robot painting he gave me for my birthday.

So the sculpting is to make a stamp (I can't think of a better word) to print with rather than it being the final art piece?

No, a print is just a mass-produced copy of the original, whether it's a painting or a sculpture.

Here's the prelimenary photo to give you a better idea.

Cool. So when you "print" it will you be individually painting those prints?

I'll just be making the mold of this and sending it to Jason.  That will save on shipping costs and keep the price of the finished droduct low.

Also, looks like I'm not going to make the previous deadline. That's fine, I'm a bit rusty, and this gives me more time to make this one right.

That one there looks like a good replica of the creature from that painting already. I can't wait to see the final product!

I've had some problems with the head.  I sort of rushed the base armature, and now it's getting in my way.  I plan to start over and do it right since I'm not on a tight deadline.  I am going to take the time to set up a proper work area where I can diagram the figure, construct a proper armature, and sculpt the piece without having to move the whole operation every time I want to eat or use my computer.

I'm having to do some serious cleaning and rearranging in my confined living quarters, but I should have everything ready to begin serious production during my holiday vacation.
