Rampart

Some people my age might remember an old strategy video game called Rampart. It might be described as a tower defense game mixed with Tetris.

The game starts off with a simple wall surrounding your castle and a couple cannons to destroy the invader ships. Rounds are very quick, lasting about a minute or so. You want to destroy the enemy ships as quickly as possible because they are just smashing your castle wall to bits every second. Once you've destroyed the enemy, you'll have a few seconds to repair your castle walls using randomly shaped pieces - this is where the Tetris part that I mentioned comes in. You're not even sure what you're going to get next, but you only have a few seconds to put things together. If you run out of time without completing the wall around your castle, the game is over. As you get further on in the game, you get more cannons, but if you don't have room inside your castle walls to place them, you lose out. So, it's becomes even more of a challenge trying to expand your space without being able to complete your walls.

Just today I found a place where this game can be played online using your browser, so for those interested...

"Hello IT. Have you tried turning it off and on again? ... OK, well, the button on the side. Is it glowing?... Yeah, you need to turn it on. Err, the button turns it on. Yeah, you do know how a button works, don't you? No, not on clothes." - Roy (The IT Crowd)
