New Games to Play
« on: September 08, 2009, 04:14:04 »
I come back from Atlanta with several games to try out.

Starfarers of Catan - on loan from Jason for a few months, so we need to play this a few times to see if it's worth it for me to consider getting a copy.  I like it, but I haven't played it in a few years.

Peon - I'd never heard of this.  Jason gave it to me.  He payed $1 for it, so it's gotta be good... right?

Some game about performing magic tricks that I don't remember the name of...

Star Trek: The Adventure Game - Got to play this once at Jason's place.  It's actually pretty fun.  If you ever read a "choose your own adventure" book as a kid... and liked it, you will enjoy this.  It's a good interpretation of the book medium into a boardgame.  Only drawback is it's 2-player.

Sounds cool. I'm definitely interested in checking out Starfarers of Catan.
"Hello IT. Have you tried turning it off and on again? ... OK, well, the button on the side. Is it glowing?... Yeah, you need to turn it on. Err, the button turns it on. Yeah, you do know how a button works, don't you? No, not on clothes." - Roy (The IT Crowd)

Sounds wonderful!

I will try your $1 game, if you try my Thurn & Taxis.

I read the rules for Peon... I wouldn't have paid a dollar for it. :P

The theme is poorly tacked on, and completely inconsequential to the game other than determining order of play.  You could easily play the game with an ordinary deck of playing cards, and it's not even a good one of those type of games.  Especially because in between rounds you have to switch seats.

I did however get to play Illusio (the magic trick game) at Dragon's house last night.  It wasn't bad.

I'm really looking forward to Starfarers though.  I got to pull the game out to show Dragon & Beth, and remembered all the cool stuff about it.  I nominate it for the next game day, unless you guys have another idea.  Keep in mind that it's on loan and has to go back to Atlanta in a few months time.
