taiyo edge surf bug
« on: March 11, 2012, 14:30:51 »
damn right i bought one!  it was so cheap, i thought why not?  if just because it matches my edgerunners.  im debating on whether or not to crack the seal of its box.  maybe just throw it in the basement for a few years.

 http://www.ebay.com/itm/280838139144?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_500wt_1202

i used to hate the flo yellow and blue color schemes of the edge rc cars.  but i guess its grown on me over the years of having my edgerunners as i think this bug looks sweet.  ill add some pics once i get it in my hands.

well here it is, in all its official taiyo edge color glory ;D  its a pretty sweet body.  worth the $16 and change for that alone.  unfortunately its about an inch too long for the edgerunner body to fit on it.  but thats probably for the best.  still havent cut the tape.  i know if i do ill remove the red surf bug and taiyoedge.com decals.  they just seem to clutter up the body too much.  its already all body kitted out year 2000 style ;D
check it out!
i like how they use the old "on road off-road no road" slogan

sweet!

clearly theres a front bumper here

i have no front bumper, maybe its in the box ???

ricey rear valance with duals peeking out

genuine taiyo, but made in china like everything now :'(

the BEST

never seen this one

some other junk

surf bug inspiration?

so of course i had to take it out and eff it all up :o  the chassis is so chintzy!  i wasnt expecting much with 4 AA power but man its funny.  another neat detail is that it didnt come with any type of bumpers front or rear.  one good hit and that body is cracked up.  i wanna melt the stupid surfboards down and make em into bumpers.  but man i think the body looks great. :D  be nice to find a better chassis to put it on.

i simplified it a bit:

that does look like where they might have got the idea from lol,,,and man that looks sooooooooooooo much cleaner, that's deff a turbo front bumper the regular real bug does not have those 3 big openings down below and does not look as aggressive as the turbo they even gave the multi spoke turbo wheels very cool, sucks they took the bumpers off i guess they didn't think it was powerful enough in the end to need them.
Hit it Mr.butters!!!

well i didnt take any pics of it but i can tell you.  first, the body is just mounted in four spots but it has absolutely no support behind any of it.  the rear axle just has a swing movement, no shocks or springs of any kind.  rigid up front.  tires are air filled but are completely smooth.  it really looks more like a model of a vw bug than an rc car.  like they put all the effort into its presentation and not how it functioned as an rc car.  which is fine for me as i never planned on running it.
