Title: The Game that Kami Made
Post by: TylerChuit on June 27, 2008, 17:40:16
About four nights ago, I had a dream that I was playing board games over at Wylders' house.  Dragon was also there, and the three of us were finishing up some game I don't now recall, but I remember that there were a ton of little wooden cubes that we were sorting through to put away.  (I mean that almost literally, the table was completely covered in wooden cubes of all shapes and sizes.)

Meanwhile, we were talking about which game to play next.  Charles, with something of a wry smile asked about Piedra, knowing that I hadn't brought it with me.  When reminded him that I didn't have it, he said, "Then how about the game my daughter just made for a school project."

We agreed it would be cool to check out, though secretly I was dreading the experience.  Mainly since I have a niece the same age and she tries to make board games that look terrible, and involve ripping up lots of little sheets of paper which she scribbles unintelligable words onto to represent godknowswhat.

What Kami produced however looked very well done.  She explained the game was called "Mother Nature" and it was an ecology game that involved adding things to your ecosystem to make it ballanced.  The person at the end of the game with the largest, most balanced ecosystem wins.  She handed out small green boards about 12" square that was gridded for each of us to represent our empty ecosystems.  There were cards we could play to add things to our ecosystems, or wreak havok on the system of another player.

The artwork was also pretty well done.  It was stick figurey, but deliberately so, with very thick lines so as to look like cave paintings.

I don't remember much beyond that, but like I said, it looked pretty cool.  I will say that I have no desire to actually make this game.  I already have enough games knocking around in my head that I need to finish, and besides... it wasn't my idea.  ;)

Are you sure this wasn't a subconscious reminder of Kansas? Certain elements that you've described here remind me of what I've seen of that.

Hmm... so you're saying that Kami stole my idea?   ;D

I dunno.  Maybe I'm just a one trick pony.

I'm sure you've got more than one trick. Some tricks just take more time to develop than others.

I'll ask Kami to invent that so we can play it!!

Although I'm sure she'd rather play Piedra! ;D

Are you planning on letting me store your games forever?   :)

Well, if she has any questions about how she made it, let me know.  It's all fuzzy now, but I'll help as best as I can.  :D
