Title: Gaming Event/Housewarming?
Post by: Wyldwing on March 14, 2012, 05:03:54
Dragon,

First of all...miss you!!  It's been too long (again).

You and the family have moved closer and I know you need some time to settle in.  I, also, need to get through busy season.  I was hoping to coordinate a game day for mid-April.  Perhpaps Sunday April 15th? Perhaps starting at noon and going until about 8 or so?

We could all come over, see the new place, bring some housewarming gifts and enjoy each others company and play a few games.

What do you think?  It's about a month away...so I am hoping it's enough notice to get something started...

Hi. Beth had just mentioned today that she wanted to have a housewarming party on Anna-Larie's first birthday, which happens to be just a week before the date that you've mentioned. I'm not sure if Sunday April 8th would work out at all for you with the busy tax season, but if so, that would be great timing. In either case, it would be great to see you again and get back into some games, since I've barely had time for any recently.

That date sounds good.  Please send out a reminder!!!

Ok. So now we're shooting for Beth's birthday to have the house-warming party. Getting unpacked and organized has been a major chore, but I think we're just about ready now. Beth's finals are the most important thing to get passed now though.

Ok...forgive me for not knowing...but what is that date? :)

It's ok. Her birthday is May 8th ( it's on the calendar  ;) ), but that probably wouldn't be the day we'd be able to get together. I'm hoping that the Sunday following her birthday would work out. I haven't really talked with her about it yet, but that weekend is Mother's Day. I guess I'm sticking with the holidays.  :D

I'm interested in coming out to your new place, however, Mother's Day is a no go for me. My wife enjoys my company too much to give up a holiday geared towards her.

Ok. Reasonable argument. I hadn't even brought that particular day up to my wife anyway.

My wife said that May 6th seems to be too soon, so she'd like us all to plan for May 20th. I hope that sounds good to you guys. I've posted it on the calendar.

By the way, our phone numbers are still the same in case you need to call for directions or something.

May 20th is on my calendar.

Yay!!  ;D

If Caralee isn't working that night we will both be there.  If she is, then I will come solo!!

Sadly that is a bad day for me. My former boss is coming back to town from Panama, I've already made plans to go golfing with him and a friend that day.
However, don't let that stop you from getting your game on.
I'll try to make the next one.

Ok. Sorry that it's not going to work out. Hopefully we'll be able to get together next month at least.

Oh... by the way, Beth says "it's not a house warming party." Ok. So I'll call it our New Home Game Day.

NEW HOME GAME DAY!

Caralee is not headed back to work until the end of the month, so we should be able to game with you all day.  What time did you want arrivals?  I know that when we visited last week you had mentioned 9-9 (ish).  That should work fine for us...and in actuality, we would likely do something like 9am - 6pm ish or so...depending on how Caralee feels.

She is still recovering after all and although I am a die-hard gamer, I do need to be considerate to her needs :)

Looking very forward to it!!

Starting at 9am and ending somewhere from 6-9pm sounds good to me.  :)

I haven't been able to finish watching it myself, but check out this video on YouTube to get an idea of The Game Of Thrones.

Are you going to be able to "quick start" us?

I've watched the video twice and have been reading through the rules for A Game Of Thrones to get the best grasp of the game that I can. My co-worker, Phillip, plans to be joining us around 11 for A Game Of Thrones. I figure by that time we should be finished or wrapping up Dungeon Lords. I have no set plans for the remainder of the game day, but with as many people as we'll have, I'm thinking that Bang! would be a good one.

This is how our game day went, starting off at 9am and ending around 5:45pm.

Dungeon Lords (http://www.funagain.com/control/product?product_id=020954&affil=DRGH): Charles, Caralee, Beth, and me, with Chris as our non-playing instructor - Charles won.

Bang! (http://www.funagain.com/control/product?product_id=017817&affil=DRGH): me (Sheriff), Chris (Vice), Charles (Outlaw), Caralee (Vice), Beth (Renegade), Vanessa (Outlaw), Phillip (Outlaw) - Outlaws won - I was blown up by some dynamite that Vanessa lit. I thought it was a nice introduction for Phillip and Vanessa into our gaming group.

Sleuth (http://www.funagain.com/control/product?product_id=014815&affil=DRGH): We didn't actually finish this one. We had the same 7 players as we had from the previous game. 7 is the max number of players listed for Sleuth, but the game seemed to drag on too long for everyone with little progress, so eventually we agreed to cut the game short and have everyone secretly guess at the same time. Caralee and Vanessa both guessed correctly. The game is great for 4 players - maybe 5 is the best maximum. (Just checked BGG, and based on the polls, 4 or 5 players is best.)

Cargo Noir (http://www.funagain.com/control/product?product_id=023510&affil=DRGH): Final game of the day before we all had to split. Phillip and Vanessa struggled with the idea of leaving before the game started, but since we would have needed to group up into teams and they had a friend to go visit the decision was a little easier. It was a very fun game to play and pretty easy to catch onto. Chris won with 195 points (I think).

Ok, so we didn't get to play A Game Of Thrones (http://www.funagain.com/control/product?product_id=025026&affil=DRGH), but we had a great time hanging out and playing games with everyone who came! I hope we can all get together again soon!

I had a great time too.  I must admit I was a bit apprehensive before I got there, but I was relieved that things went smoothly.

I'm really glad that we got to play Dungeon Lords.  Looking forward to Game of Thrones for our next event.

Very cool! My co-worker Phillip and his girlfriend Vanessa also had a great time and would like to join us again.

I would like to get together again very soon, but during our extended Memorial Day weekend coming up, we already have other plans, so I'd like to propose the first Sunday in June for our next game day! That would be June 3rd. All in favor?

Sorry...I couldn't make that event (yesterday).  Had a poker event scheduled at my place.  Had a lot of fun, had fun serving drinks and letting my poker buddies try my home brew of Octoberfest and Pale Ale...

But, I would like to see when the next game day can be...I will have two gamer girls in the house the first week in July...not that I want to wait that long, but just to make you aware.  My cousin from Nebraska (Caralees, actually) and Kami will be ready to game (with me of course).

So this weekend, I'd rather not do anything, but how about next weekend? June 17th??
